Marvel Vs. DC

by Naomi M.

For a long time, since the 1930s, people have debated whether Marvel or DC is better. Personally, I think both have their strengths in different ways; for example, Marvel might have better Action movies and shows, even though DC does have some good shows. But when it comes to anything animated, DC wins hands down, and then the argument starts with who has better characters, storylines, and comic books.

That's why I interviewed different students at Nea Community Learning Center. To learn their opinions on the topic. Without further ado, let's see the opinions of 6th and 7th graders from Nea.

Zara from 6th grade says she finds DC to be her favorite out of the two. In her words, “I like how they portray many of the Female characters in DC versus how Marvel does”. Her favorite hero from DC is Wonder Woman, while her favorite Villain is Harley Quinn. When asking Zara about what she likes most about DC out of comic books, movies, and shows, she said she likes the movies more, even expressing her excitement for the new Clayface movie about to come out. The last question I asked my interviewee was, Why do you personally believe DC is better than Marvel? In a simple response, she says, “DC is better because it has way better character arcs.”

My next interviewee had a lot to say about why Marvel is “no doubt better than DC." Spencer in 7th grade said, “DC just isn't iconic like Marvel”. When I asked Spencer why he liked Marvel so much, he replied that he grew up watching it and that Marvel movies have better quality and action. When asked about his preferred superhero, he said Iron Man because he was able to build a whole suit in a cave with scrap metal. His favorite supervillain is Doctor Octopus because “his design is cool.” The last inquiry I asked this interviewee was why they seemed to like movies so much. He said he didn't like to keep changing episodes or have to read a book.

Next on my interview list was Annaleah in 6th grade. Although Annaleah seemed to be shy, she also likes DC; she finds DC to be more interesting to her. She continues to say that "DC shows and movies are easier to follow; Marvel always puts a little, like, Easter egg after each movie, and most of the time I get confused about what's going on.” Annaleah additionally likes Wonder Woman too. She also likes Joker because of his art style and the mystery behind his backstory.

One of the Last students I questioned was Saraj.  Saraj is another Marvel fan who likes Iron Man movies. The main reason this interviewee likes Marvel was due to the fact that he hadn't been exposed to much of DC entertainment.  Although he did claim to like the Villain Bane from DC, proving that there should be no real victor, no matter how many arguments there are to be had, Marvel and DC have strengths in different topics; there is a problem with liking one more than the other or even liking both.
